Change Your State

These tools can help change your state and bring immediate relief from difficult emotions:

  • Breathe.
  • Meditate.
  • Strenuous physical exercise.
    • As little or as much as you want, but enough to get your heart beating faster and breathing heavy.
  • Go for a Swim.
  • Check your perspective.
  • Write it out.
  • Write a Journal entry.
  • Go outside into nature.
  • Music meditate:
    • Sit or lie down. Play a piece of music that you love. Try to focus entirely on listening to the music. It can help to choose an instrument, beat, or melody to follow. When your mind gets distracted, bring it back to the music.
  • Laughter.
  • Move your body:
    •  Dance.
    • Shake it out.
  • Creative expression.
  • Hug someone.
  • Rest.
  • Sleep.
  • Tense and release:
    • Tense all the muscles in your body. Hold it for ten seconds, then release.
  • Play a sport or game.
  • Splash water on your face.
  • Eat a healthy meal.
  • Spend time with friends.
